| INTRODUCTION: For more than thirty years, Treasure Island Preschool has offered quality, affordable education for 3-5 year olds through it's preschool and junior kindergarten programs. Founded in 1973 by a group of parents who wanted more structure and stimulation for their children, Treasure Island Preschool obtained society status in 1976. According to our constitution, the school is run by an elected executive of parents and employs two teachers. The supervisor, Michele Richardson, who has been with the school almost since it's inception has devised a program that stresses each child's intellectual , social, emotional, physical, aesthetical and behavioral development and promotes self-confidence, independence, a sense of responsibility and an enjoyment of learning. We firmly believe that through personal achievement and success a child develops a strong sense of self and can make the most of his/her potential. Although the program offers a structured agenda, there are ample opportunities for making choices and decisions and for planning personal activities in the various centers the school provides. We occupy a large, secure area with individual rooms for arts and sciences, building and blocks, water, sand and carpentry, housekeeping and dress-up and with music and library centers. Treasure Island Preschool helps children feel confident and comfortable in a school environment and instills a feeling that they are part of a non-family group often for the first time. Studies show that children who attend preschool have enhanced cognitive, verbal and social development and enter school better prepared to learn.
